CARNEGIE MUSEUM

Museum Gift Shop

The gift shop at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History is also the main entrance--the museum experience starts right at the front door. We wanted to pull the museum into the retail store and blur the lines between the two spaces. We gave three taxidermy diorama's, that were in storage, a new look, and museum staff dug up a variety of artifacts and specimens out of storage that were placed around the gift shop. In addition, we surveyed and crawled through virtually every storage space throughout the museum to find old furniture and to research fixtures. We refinished, reworked and refurbished more than 15 pieces of furniture.

EH fabricated new fixtures for the gift shop, including three different types of custom shelving, two custom cash wraps, an enormous and playful stack of crates for kids toys, stainless steel product kiosks mounted into boulders, and a new cherry facelift for the base of the baby Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton.
